Mike joined the Army in 1968, "not sure of what I was trying to prove. After 3 years, including a year in Vietnam where I ran into our classmate, Roger Hight, who was a door gunner on a Huey (I was a grunt) and eight months drinking beer in Germany, I decided to prove I was college material. So I turned down the chance to reenlist and enrolled at El Centro."
In October, 1971, Mike married a Hillcrest grad named Laurie that Steve Adams' wife had introduced him to a few years earlier. She died in 2001. "Recovery has been slow. But I have 2 great kids, a son who just graduated from UNT, and a daughter who graduates in May from UT with a Masters in Social Work. I might retire when I get them off my payroll." As for Mike, he graduated from UTA in 1974 with an accounting degree, joined a CPA firm now know as Ernst & Young, and made partner in 1984. "I have traveled to many parts of the world on firm business and for pleasure, and I'm looking forward to more when I retire." On January 15, 2011, Mike married Cheryl Gibson Blondahl to become the latest ouple of classmates who married other classmates. Congratulations to Cheryl and Mike. |
