Linda Diane Smith was born in New York and transplanted to Texas at the age of three when her father took a job with a company located in Grand Prairie. She quickly traded her three-year old northern accent for a Texas drawl and became enmeshed in life in the Oak Cliff suburb.

Linda attended elementary school at Margaret B. Henderson. Justin F. Kimball had opened a year before she entered the 6th grade. "Because our street was on the line dividing the Kimball district from Adamson, both my older brother and I were able to obtain a transfer in order to attend Kimball. I have always been thankful that the school board was lenient about granting transfers and allowed me to attend Kimball. I attended Kimball in the 7th and 8th grades, T.W. Browne in the 9th grade, and returned to Kimball for grades 10-12."

After graduating from Kimball, Linda attended college at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. It was there that I met my wonderful husband, Jack Gardner. They were married in Dallas in April, 1971, and she became a full-fledged Arkansan. "We have always lived in my husband's hometown of Glenwood, a small town 30 miles west of Hot Springs." Jack has an insurance and accounting agency and Linda teaches school. She taught school 4th, 5th and 6th grade science at Glenwood Elementary until 1986. At that time, she was hired at Lake Hamilton where she currently teaches 6th grade at the Lake Hamilton Middle School. Linda enjoys a scenic daily twenty-minute drive to and from school.

Jack and Linda have one son, Chad who was born in 1977. He and his wife, Mandy, have been married a year and are both Harding graduates. They live in North Little Rock where they both are employed with Alltel.

"In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, photography, and playing golf."

"As a teacher, I often look back at the teachers I had at Kimball and reflect on the impact they had on my life. I will always be indebted to them for inspiring me to be a life-long learner and for instilling within me the desire to teach."

Anybody wishing to write to Linda may do so at gardner1@ipa.net (home) or linda.gardner@lh.dsc.k12.ar.us. She would enjoy hearing from former classmates.
