"I was born in Dallas, Texas, on 18 September 1948. Attended L.K. Hall Elementary School and Stockard Jr High. Upon graduation from the University of Texas at Arlington, 21 December 1971, I was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and commissioned a second lieutenant of Infantry in the Army. i also picked up a Master of Science in Logistics Management and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Florida Institute of Technology. My military education included the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Advanced Course, the Logistics Executive Development Course, Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.

"I proudly served for 30 years to include assignments in:

  • 82nd Airborne Division, Fayetteville, NC.
  • 4th Infantry Division, Colorado Springs, Co.
  • Army Logistics Management College, Petersburg, Va.
  • 8th Infantry Division, Bad Kreuznach and Mannheim, Germany
  • 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, TX
  • 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX (Desert Storm, Saudi Arabia and Iraq)
  • 1st Army, Atlanta, Ga.
  • 8th Army, Korea
  • III Corps, Fort Hood, TX
  • "Perhaps the highlight of my career was when I commanded the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, a combined arms battalion, during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The unit earned the Valorous Unit Citation in that war.

"Since moving to the Army’s retired roles in 2001, I continued to support our nation at war as a contractor with a focus on Mission Command and supporting command and control systems. I that role I supported the forces in Europe, Korea, and Iraq. I hung up my spurs and retired from General Dynamics in January 2015.

"Judy and I live in Central Texas, about 10 miles south of Killeen and Fort Hood, on 30 acres overlooking the Lampasas River. Judy is an elected official in Bell County. We met while we were both working at Six Flags. We have three great children: John, Bryan, and Katy. John and his wife Liz gave us two wonderful grandkids: Avery and Jake. Bryan and his wife Katrina gave us a beautiful granddaughter, Harriet.

When we have a chance .... we head to Port Aransas where we have a beach house."
