Marc Wesley McCord was born at Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff, a southern suburb of Dallas, Texas, on January 29, 1948, and grew up in Oak Cliff where he lived most of his life. As a youngster he attended L.O.Donald Elementary School, L.V. Stockard Junior High School and graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School in May, 1966. While at Kimball, Marc was a member of the National Defense Cadet Corps (NDCC) where he served as an officer and a participant on the Royal Lancers Precision Drill Team. He also was a member of the Kimball debate team in the 1965-66 school year where he and his debate partner, Mike Mitchell, were successful in tournament debate, never losing an engagement and always finishing with the top two speaker ratings under the tutelage of Mary Curtis, our debate instructor and sponsor.

While a senior, Marc began a career as a professional musician, playing rock 'n roll guitar and singing lead in his band, The Extortions, which also featured Donald Ray Sperry on guitar, Gary Forsythe on drums and Jon McIver on electric bass. The Extortions played a lot of the music popular at that time, but was mainly a cover band for the Rolling Stones and their early R&B music taken from the great American blues artists of the 1930's - 60's. After high school, Marc briefly attended East Texas State University where he majored in pre-law and minored in music composition before striking out for San Francisco in 1967 to pursue a career in rock, blues, folk and classical music. He continued his music career in 1972, when he formed Burning Heart, Inc. as an artist management and promotion company, and that same year incorporated Black Cobra Productions, Inc. as a concert production company to produce major recording artists in concert appearances nationwide. Some of the acts he promoted include Frank Zappa and the Mothers, Genesis, Ten Years After, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, Emmylou Harris, and many other artists. Additional information about his musical career can be found at Marc's Music Museum.

After a 13-year career in music, Marc went back to school and received a certificate in video production, a double degree in electronics and avionics and a certificate in microcomputer systems technology, following through on a career change that started in 1982, when he became a field engineer on IBM Systems 34/36/38 mini computer systems and peripherals, 80- and 96-column keypunch machines and line/band printers. In 1985, he got his first personal computer and began his current career as a personal computer consultant. In 1996, Marc got his first Internet account, and shortly thereafter began learning html scripting and creating web documents. Today, he continues his career as a PC consultant and web designer. But, life is much more than just work, and he enjoys a wide range of activities away from computers.

First and foremost among his interests is whitewater canoeing and wilderness camping. In addition to his career as a personal computer consultant and web designer Marc also owns Canoeman River Guide Services, providing guided canoe and canoe-camping trips on rivers in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah. He is an avid golfer, amateur photographer/videographer, and target shooter with rifles and pistols. Intellectual endeavors include reading classical literature and biographies of successful people, writing poetry, studying history and genealogy, comparative religion and government, flying aerobatic aircraft, participating in river clean ups, and many other activities that give meaning to life. His personal web site is Canoeman.com. And the rest, as they say, is history...
