After graduating from Kimball in 1966, Barbara went to business college in Dallas, then worked at the Army Air Force Exchange Service as a Grade 6 secretary. She met her husband, Mike and they were married in 1969. Mike grew up in Duncanville. After Mike finished the University of Texas at Arlington they were transferred to Oklahoma City with Mobil Oil. Barbara and Mike got pretty homesick for Texas and came as far back as Wichita Falls, where they own a small real estate appraisal business there.
They reared two children: a daughter, Jeanne, who graduated from North Texas University and is a licensed Interior Designer for an architectural design firm in Dallas, and a son, Philip, who attended Texas Tech University. Jeanne married this past March, 2001, in Dallas. Barbara says, "Mike and I had never experienced "tired" before that day! Tired has a whole new meaning now! But, in spite of that, it was a gorgeous wedding."
This past May, 2001 Philip graduated with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He has just passed the national board exam and will be searching for a job in Dallas.
Barbara was a stay-at-home mom and loved every minute with the children as they were growing up. She was active in their school events, president of the local PTA and church functions. After her son left for Texas Tech Barbara became Mike's secretary/bookkeeper for their small business. She enjoys working with her hands, cooking, gardening, walking, music, shopping for antiques and
bargains.
"I still remember the times we would get so tickled in English class. Mr. Loftin's Biology class was next and I couldn't keep from clearing my throat continually because I had laughed so hard in English--and you didn't make any noise in Mr. Loftin's class! With all kidding aside, he was one of many great teachers at Kimball. I have many fond memories at my old high school."
