Upon graduating from Kimball, Wes managed to attend four colleges without obtaining a degree, married Ruth Ann Bates in 1971, and quit college. Wes spent about 18 months playing in the band called "Liberation" with Stevie Ray Vaughan, before Stevie became the Oak Cliff legend that he is today, and Wes is quite proud of that experience. Actually, Wes told Stevie he [Wes] needed to play more top 40 music and quit the band!

The Johnsons have two sons, Jason (44) and Toby (41), six grandchildren, Nolan (16), Gabriella (13) Dylan & Justin (10) from Jason & Karen. Toby & Justina have two children, Gianna Marie (9 years) and Isaac James (6 ).

Wes began working for Monroe Auto Equipment (shock absorbers) in 1978, in sales, and was transferred to their headquarters in Monroe, Michigan in 1987. Between 1984 and 1990, Wes began attending college classes again and received his diploma from Dallas Baptist University in 1990. Five colleges and 24 years after Kimball, he graduated from college. He did not recommend this to his sons. They have both graduated from Ohio University with degrees in International Business, with Jason earning his MBA, and are officially off Ruth Ann and his books!

Wes was employed by Tenneco Automotive which owned Monroe Auto when he went to work for them in 1978, now there are several automotive companies under the Tenneco umbrella.

"A funny thing happened to me one night in 1995, while playing basketball in Toledo Ohio. I was elbowed in the back of the head while trying to rebound the basketball (2.5 inch vertical leap) and suffered a massive "trauma induced" stroke. After six days in intensive care, I was put in a regular room. I was diagnosed as "long term" recovery, and 12 -18 months away from partial recovery, but Divine intervention took place and I was back to work in six weeks and on a plane to the West Coast in seven weeks. No lasting ill effects."

In 1996, Ruth Ann and Wes were transferred to Tenneco's home office in Chicago. They were there 15 months, and then transferred back to Toledo. "Ruth Ann and I are empty nesters, as our oldest son, Jason, and his wife, Karen and four kids (10, 7, twins at 4 years) live six doors down from us in the Toledo, Ohio area, and our youngest son, Toby and his wife, Justina, and their daughter Gianna & son Isaac, live in the Columbus, Ohio area. So our kids and their families are close to us." Ruth Ann and Wes play golf every chance they get and usually take several golf trip's throughout the year. Ruth Ann works at Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo as Assistant Director of Christian Education and does a fantastic job. "God has blessed me and my family".

Chapter 2: After 30 years my position was eliminated, which was OK with me because I was ready to retire. One day I received a call from a gentleman looking for a sales manager for his team; I thought about it for a month and then jumped back in the sales management game and I love it. Plus each one of you is a potential customer!

Chapter 3: Wes officially retired from the workforce in January of 2015 & enjoys traveling in the south during Ohio winters with Ruth Ann (class of 1972). He also makes it back to Oak Cliff at least 4 times a year.
