"After graduating from Kimball in 1966, I attended Arlington State College, now UT @ Arlington. I majored 1 year in Architecture, then changed my major to Commercial Art. While going to UTA, I worked at Six Flags as a portrait artist and caricaturist for two years, then at LTV Aerospace printing and art departments in Grand Prairie. I also played guitar and harmonica in a couple of bands around Dallas and Ft. Worth.

"After graduation in '71, I worked one year for the Dallas Morning News as a ad layout and paste up artist. Feeling the need to increase my skills as an artist, I traveled to out Los Angeles to attend The Art Center College of Design.

"In 1974, after 3 years of living and breathing paint and turpentine, I received another BA degree in Illustration. On the day of my graduation, I met my future wife, who was the night school registrar. I had never met her because all my classes were in the daytime. Three months later we married. We will celebrate our 33rd anniversary in September '07.

"We have a wonderful daughter whom we are very proud of. She is 22 and graduated from University of California at Berkeley last year. She now lives in San Francisco and works as a grant and program administrator for the Berkeley school system.

"My wife, 'The Angel', as her patients affectionately call her, is now a therapist working with UCLA Hospital's post-cancer patients for the last 16 years, helping them with their struggle to overcome the effects of lymphedema swelling.

"I've been an illustrator and storyboard artist for advertising agencies since 1974. I taught life drawing and perspective at the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 2002. I also served as vice president of the Graphic Artist Guild of Los Angeles for two years. Currently, I'm drawing storyboards for A&W, Petco, Mercury Auto Insurance and Blue Cross.

"I love animals. We lost our two cocker spaniels, "Chip"and "Snookums", to old age, but still have our calico cat "Romeo".

"I don't surf anymore, but I still love to swim, ski, golf, play blues guitar, and travel. We live in "The Valley" of Los Angeles. You can contact me at 818-901-6444 or at rdrake48@sbcglobal.net.
