In high school, Richard was actively involved in choir and theater, art and musical performance. His music career included both folk guitar and playing as a member of "The Elephants" with Bobby Hedderman, Danny Sanchez and David Baker. After graduation, Richard attended THE University of Texas in Austin where he played in a band called "Genessee" with Texas legend Gary P. Nunn. Later, Richard played with Michael Martin Murphey (Mark's brother).

Richard was the lead guitarist in Michael Murphey's band during his "Wildfire" heyday, band leader for Denver chanteuse Lannie Garrett for seven years, guitarist in the Denver Center For Performing Arts production of "Always Patsy Cline", the longest running musical theater show in Denver history, and leader of his own quartet. He was raised on country and blues, and has a special affinity for both. His songs have been recorded and performed by Tom Rush, Michael Murphey, Emmylou Harris, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Celeste Krenz, and others.

Though still active in music, Richard's main creative talents have been devoted to art for many years, and he has traveled extensively to Europe to study, observe and paint. He maintains his keen interest in musical composition and performance, reflected by his excellent CD called "Changes in the Heart", recorded in 1996 and offered for sale on our class web site since 2001. On that CD is a song of his that was recorded as an Emmylou Harris and Tom Rush duet in 1987, called "Louisiana Eyes", which Richard penned in 1972.

Richard is married to Samantha Brady, and they make their home in Littleton, a suburb of Denver, Colorado. They have two cats named Ella and Mose, both of whom are piano prodigies. Both Samantha and Richard are accomplished photographers whose works grace the pages of the booklet that comes with Richard's CD. You can view some of Richard's photography at UseFilm.com.

In 2003, he rode with the Tour de France citizens' ride celebrating 100 years of the event. Richard is currently back in school working on a French degree. You can e-mail Richard at chezdean@msn.com.

For a mere $15, you can own a copy of "Changes in the Heart" by contacting Richard directly, or ordering through Marc McCord (canoeman@canoeman.com).
