"After leaving Kimball I attended East Texas State University; graduating in 1970. I was also commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1970. I completed pilot training, received my Air Force Pilot's wings, flew several tours in Vietnam, became and instructor pilot, was a platform lecturer at Officer Training School; then in 1979 left active military duty and was hired as a pilot with American Airlines. I continued in the Air Force reserves while working at American.
"In 1982, I got an inter-service transfer into the Navy, yes the Navy, and instructed in the Naval Advanced Multi-Engine Pilot Program. After a couple of years I gave up flying in the Navy and transferred into the surface Navy, becoming the Executive Officer of the aircraft carrier USS America, CV-66. I retired from the Navy Reserves in 1992 as a Captain. I am still flying for American Airlines as a Boeing 767 International Captain based out of New York JFK International Airport. I mostly fly to Europe, and occasionally to South America. I plan on retiring soon, I am not sure when yet; probably as soon as my wife, Patsy, and I decide what to give me as a retirement present. Speaking of my wife... "I married one of my best friends from college back in 1977, the former Patricia Johnson of Greenville TX. Patsy and I are still best friends, having shared some really great experiences together. We enjoy almost everything from skiing, snorkeling, kayaking, rafting, hiking, biking, traveling, and other more restful and peaceful adventures. We have lived in San Antonio, Connecticut, Corpus Christi, Chicago, Dallas, and we now live in Virginia, just outside of Fredericksburg. I am not sure where we will end up next, but we will keep you informed." |
